Divine Records Magazine
Divine Records Magazine was made by Cierra Overton and Rebecca Possidel, two college students at the University of Maryland who aim to showcase upcoming artists in the DMV area. As transfer students coming to UMD this semester, we joined the Music Business Society where we were introduced to the Terrapin Record Label. Starting with the Terrapin Record Label as our first issue, we hope to give a platform to artists and producers so that listeners can get to know the artists behind the work.
Hello! My name is Rebecca Possidel and I am a 20 year old transfer student attending the University of Maryland. Originally, I am from Valley Stream, NY. Growing up, I started off playing piano around 7 years old but quickly switched to the violin at 8 and music has been a part of my life ever since. I've always enjoyed my art classes throughout my academic career and I love to cook and bake. I transferred to UMD from the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan, NY, where I obtained an Associates degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications. Going into college, I knew I wanted to be in the business side of a creative field so that I could play to both of my strengths. Since the beginning of 2022, after taking a Public Relations and a Journalism class, I decided that I wanted my career to involve both music and marketing and coming to UMD helped me explore that career path more. Cierra and I decided to start this magazine as a way to document our concert experience and it developed into also giving a platform to musicians and producers starting off just like us.
Hello, my name is Cierra Overton and I am a 21 year old transfer student attending the University of Maryland. Originally, I am from St Mary’s, Maryland. Growing up I was very interested in art and always thought I would pursue a career in a more creative field. I started my photography journey in middle school always taking way too many pictures of plants and animals to the point I always filled up my storage instantly, but it wasn’t until high school that I found interest in concert photography. I’ve always wanted a career in photography, but also wanted a career that was a little more stable than just photography which is what caused me to pick Marketing and Communications as my majors at UMD. This magazine has always been a thought in the back of my head for many years and it wasn’t until I came to UMD and met Rebecca, another person who loves concerts just as much as me, that this magazine came to life. Rebecca and I came up and created this concept and idea of Divine Records Magazine to not only showcase our experiences at shows, but to also highlight and showcase new and upcoming artists while learning more about the processes of the music industry.
